Animal Talk Rescue, Seattle, WA
Animal Talk opened its doors 15 years ago, and operates as a rescue organization and pet store. While their focus is primarily with cats and kittens, rescue of any abused, abandoned or neglected companion animals is undertaken provided there is space available. They take excellent, loving care of their animals. See my article about their break-in and the outpouring of support in When You Care Enough.

Best Friends Animal Society, Utah
Best Friends is the nation's largest sanctuary for abused and abandoned animals. There are about 1500 dogs, cats, and other companion animals receiving special care at this 3000 acre sanctuary. Many of the animals will go on to new and loving homes, but for those that are not eligible due to abuse, handicap, age, illness, etc. Best Friends is their haven for life. Volunteer with them — share some of your vacation time with the animals at Best Friends.

Coalition Spay Neuter Clinic, Tacoma, WA
Coalition: Humane Spay/Neuter Clinic is the first low cost, high volume, high quality spay/neuter clinic in the Puget Sound Region. Adoption alone is not the answer to pet overpopulation. Spay and neuter of the pets of low income families and free-roaming/feral cats results in fewer animals being born and fewer animals entering local animal shelters. The end result is fewer animals losing their lives due to homelessness. It's hip to snip!

Columbia Basin Equine Rescue, Yakima, WA
Their goal is to rescue slaughter-bound horses that still have quality of life. They focus on industry exploited and unwanted horses that are safe, sound or serviceably sound and usable with a future in an equine relationship either for pleasure, competition or companionship. They do much needed rescue work and keep their site updated with new horses waiting to be rescued from certain death as well as horses already in foster care.

Dog Rescue: Dogs in Danger of Euthanasia
This website lists dogs in area shelters that are slated for euthanasia. You can do a zip code search if you are looking for a dog.

Friends of the Animals Foundation, West Seattle, WA
Friends of the Animals Foundation is an all-volunteer organization based in West Seattle and devoted to cat rescue and foster care. A small organization with a big heart they have taken on some large projects such as the rescue of cats abandoned after the closing down of the Highline Housing Project (you have no idea how many cats that is, and all trapped behind chain link fencing with no access to food or water) and the 15 outdoor cats left with no one to care for their needs when the kind person who had been feeding them was permanently hospitalized. Rescue then also entailed medical care for the cats that survived the attack of a neighbor's dog (the shelter and the plight of these cats were featured on local news). A high level of care such as this is not inexpensive, so please support this very fine local rescue organization, your financial contribution is important to the care of these cats.

They care for the rest as long as they have good quality of life. In addition, we try to assist owners in finding new homes for their senior dogs through our website and referrals.
